Partnership continues Gateshead’s Growth

Work is underway on a development of 23 new homes in Rowlands Gill.

The three and four bedroomed properties, at Gibside Chase, are being delivered by Gateshead Regeneration Partnership (GRP) on land formerly occupied by an Infant School, just off Sherburn Park Drive.

The first homes are expected to be completed in the autumn and will be constructed by build partner, Vistry Partnerships.  A commitment has been made to use both local contractors and suppliers on the project – as well as to create employment and skills training opportunities for local people.

Nine of the homes will be of three-storey split level design, which will maximise views over the Gibside Estate and allow family living spaces to spill out into the generous back gardens. The rest of Gibside Chase will be traditional semi detached homes – but every house will benefit from higher space standards and energy efficiency and greater environmental performance than the average new build home.

Workers at the site of NE homes

A leading North East regeneration and housing specialist has started the new decade by signing deals with two regional housing providers that will deliver 418 new homes for all tenures on two prime sites.

Vistry Partnerships – a new venture established following Bovis Homes’ £1.1 billion purchase of Galliford Try’s housing and regeneration businesses – will work closely with Beyond Housing in Redcar and The Riverside Group in Washington.

The initiatives have been carefully co-ordinated to meet the challenges of housing need and affordability within each locality and are among nine Vistry Partnerships North schemes which will deliver over 1,200 new homes across the North East.

Both projects have grant support from Homes England – the government’s housing accelerator which works to increase the number and speed of new homes of all tenures across the country.

Builder using natural materials to enhance indoor air quality in a new build home

bylined by Adrian Judd, Operations Director at Steico UK

When building homes, too often the emphasis is on energy efficiency, airtightness and warmth, to ensure homes are cosy for occupants.

You can always have too much of a good thing and airtightness can often lead to little ventilation and a low indoor air quality.

Adrian Judd, operations director at Steico UK, explains how using natural materials in homes resolves this and actively promotes higher indoor air quality.

Housing associations often house the most vulnerable people in society.  That means housing associations have more to gain from building homes which promote high quality indoor air.

Affordable homes in Kent

Much needed affordable homes are being developed across Kent over the next four years, thanks to a local housing provider.

Golding Homes, based in Maidstone, recently exchanged contracts to deliver 164 new homes in partnership with three major UK developers; Countryside Properties, Millwood Designer Homes and Taylor Wimpey.

The new homes, located across five different developments, will be built and delivered over the next four years. Once complete the schemes, based in and around Maidstone, Ashford and Canterbury will provide 98 homes for affordable rent and 66 homes for sale through shared ownership.

Golding Homes currently own and manage over 7,650 properties, but as part of its latest strategic plan, have ambitions to grow their development portfolio by building 2,000 new homes between now and 2025.

Tenants outside Seahouses

Residents in Seahouses, Northumberland, have marked a momentous occasion and a new chapter for local affordable housing tenants as they move into their newly-built Bernicia homes.
Bernicia, a leading social housing provider in the North East, has handed over the keys to nine new homes, including six bungalows which replace old and poorly insulated wooden houses in James Street. Three new two-bedroomed homes have also been built in the town’s Stone Close.
Construction of the properties started in May 2019 and was completed by Bernicia’s in-house build team.  One of the first tenants to receive the keys is Ann Athey.
Ann said: “I’m overjoyed that moving day is nearly here. My new home has everything where I need it and it’s much more accessible than where I live now.  Getting a new house built can seem like a daunting thing to do but Bernicia has provided a brilliant service and been really supportive, making the whole process really easy. I just can’t wait to get settled in.”

house building in Wales

A further £24m is being injected immediately into building more new affordable homes in Wales, Housing Minister, Julie James has announced today.

The additional funding for housing will help accelerate the Welsh Government’s programme of providing 20,000 more affordable homes across Wales by 2021, by giving an immediate funding boost to shovel-ready schemes across the country.

The Minister unveiled today that 13,143 of the 20,000 new homes the Welsh Government promised by 2021 have already been delivered (up to end of March 2019). This includes 2,592 affordable housing units delivered across Wales in 2018/19, 12% higher than 2017/18 and the highest annual total to date.
